The Salobreña branch of the far-right party, Vox, considers it "inconceivable" that the main drag down to the beach area was closed during a morning in July.
Local party leader, Manuel Martín, emphasised the fact that it was the Friday of a fortnight change-over weekend, which is one of the busiest during the whole summer.
The road was closed from 09.00h to 13.00h, causing all kinds of chaos, not only for locals but for visitors with little knowledge of alternative routes.
Getting in to Salobreña from the N-340 was a nightmare with traffic backing up from the roundabout under the main road. And that’s not only the drivers trying to get into town from the east, but also those coming down the slip road from the west past Mercadona.
Sr. Martin understands that palm pruning must be done in the appropriate season but this main artery down to the beach could have been done before, during the week, for example.
Editorial comment: it is hard to disagree with this criticism, no matter who expressed it.
