Cleaning Skiff Finds Drugs

Almunecar skiff cleaning sea surfaceThe Grand Naval Fleet; aka, cleaning skiffs plying the waters off the municipal beaches, picked up some unusual flotsam… a large drug package.

The Servicio Marítimo de la Guardia Civil was immediately informed, which sent officers around  by midday to collect it and transport it back to Motril Port for inspection.

The find was right along the end of Playa Cotobro and turned out to be hashish. The skiff captain – who doubles as the first mate, ships cook, powder monkey and cabin boy – saw the package bobbing about in the water whilst he was busy skimming off the undesireable floating objects that visit our beaches – and we’re not referring to the tourists.

Upon inspection, the parcel was found to contain about 30 kilos of hashish. The Guardia Civil have since opened an investigation into where it came from – we can rule out Santa Claus.
