The Almuñécar fire service was called out around 04.00h this morning to deal with a car fire near the bird park.

The two damaged cars had been parked on the steep road known as the Cuesta del Castillo which leads from the southern entrance of the Majuelo Park up to the castle in Barrio San Miguel.

Before the fire could be dealt with it had spread to the palm trees that line the road, damaging several of them.

Although it seems likely that there was a short circuit in one of the damage cars, both the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil are investigating the cause of the fire, informed the Councillor for Citizen Safety, Francisco Robles.
