Early Sunday morning, emergency services had to rescue 30 people trapped in floods in the province of Cádiz.
Three of those rescued in Benharas (Los Barrios) required medical assistance in a nearby medical centre, as they were showing signs of hypothermia, one of whom was a 94-year-old woman.
All of those that were evacuated from their homes have been relocated with relatives.
The heavy rains in the west of Andalucía caused three roads to be closed to traffic in Cádiz: A-2103 in San Roque, la CA-9209 in Los Barrios and the CA-9208 in Algeciras. The area registered 90 litres per sq/m over a period of twelve hours.
The 112 emergency number received dozens of calls from residents to say that flood water was entering their homes in Los Barrios where the Town Hall activated the Plan de Emergencia Municipal (PEM) protocol.
The situation required the presence of the Grupo de Actividades Subacuáticas (GEAS) belonging to the Guardia Civil to rescue people trapped in their homes owing to the Río Palmones bursting its banks, as well as its tributary streams such as Huerta Benharás.
