The Dirección General de Tráfico has been trying to get people to use traffic roundabouts correctly, usually through their social-media accounts.
So…. here’s the DGT’s idea of a roundabout (see photo), which is different to a normal roundabout but which, ironically, just amounts to drivers using it as a standard roundabout should be.
In other words, the odd centre island and the marked-out lanes merely teach people to only used the outside lane if you’re leaving the junction at the next turning… almost.
The DGT have made a video showing how traffic flows around the junction… without getting fined. There are unbroken lines that if you drive over, you get fined, with broken lines through which to access a lane – they’re a narrow window by the look of it.
Anyway, these turboglorietas are part of the Texto Refundido de la Ley de Tráfico, Circulación de Vehículos a Motor y Seguridad Vial, which received its draft approval last month.
We’ll do a separate article on the other points included in the before-mentioned highway-code modification.
(News: Spain)

About bloody time! The standard of driving around roundabouts locally is appalling.
