Despite the fact that people along the coast can’t wait to get up to the Nevada Shopping Centre in Granada, for example, we should also look closer to home.
This is what the Salobreña Town Hall wants its residents to do and has made a video and put it on Youtube, calling on locals to shop locally because of the attrition wrought on small business-owners by the Pandemic restrictions.
The video is entitled: “Está en Tus Manos – No rompas el círculo – Compra en Salobreña”,it shows businesses pulling down their metal shutters, never to reopen them.
The Councillor for Commerce, Belén Sánchez explained, “It’s in your hands that businesses don’t have to close down,” adding, “It’s in everybody’s hands that Salobreña has or not a prosperous future.”

If Governments in Spain and worldwide had allowed businesses to trade normally with Covid Compliant procedures, these small and medium businesses would not be in dire straits now.
I have always tried to support local businesses rather than the likes of mega Corporations such as Jeff Bezos, Amazon and others with doggy tax loops and working conditions for their staff.
To put the onus on the locals of Salobrena imo, is downright dishonest. It’s the Government’s
measures which have put these mainly family businesses in jeopardy, not the local people.
Ditto the 2008 financial robbery which was a transfer of wealth from the taxpayer to the financial sector.
