Just over a week ago a Guardia Civil (Tráfico) patrol came across an articulated lorry weaving from one lane to the other, so they pulled him over…
This was on the AP-9, a motorway, where it runs through Vilaboa (Coruña, Galicia). This motorway is a main artery between Spain and Portugal so it was no surprise to see a lorry with Portuguese plates.
The driver had obviously been drinking but when they breathalysed him, they were surprised to see that he was seven times over the limit for a comercial driver. His reading was 1,05 mg per litre of air exhaled whereas the limit is only 0.15 mg/l.
The lorry was immediately immobilised until another driver from the transport company could come to fetch it.
The driver is now facing a 3-to-6-month, suspended sentence, a sizeable fine and will certainly lose his licence for up to four years… and consequently, his employment..
