Almuñécar’s presentation of their marina project did not go down very well in neighbouring Motril, who have their own one.
What has miffed Motril is that the Almuñécar one has clearly been backed by the Junta, hence the presence of Junta bigwig, Marifrán Carazo, at the presentation in the Parque Majuelo.
It appears that Almuñécar has received some special consideration as the Motril marina project on Playa Granada has spent years languishing on a Junta desk in ‘study phase.’
The PSOE in Motril took the opportunity to hit the Mayor and Councillor for Tourism over the head with the fact that they haven’t been able to achieve the same, especially as the Mayor and the Junta belong to the same political party. To be fair, the Mayor of Almuñécar also belongs to the PP. The socialist consider that Mayor Luisa García Chamorro (PP) and Councillor José Lemos (Cs) have allowed other municipalities to get ahead thanks to lack of initiative by the governing party in Motril.
