The Motril Port Authorities intends to increase the capacity of the marina area within the port itself by 50 berths. They will do this by constructing floating walkways to the extra berthing, which will in no way obstruct merchant traffic.
This will bring the total number to nearer 500 between the Real Club Náutico and Marina Motril. There are also plans to build a varadero (a slip way/dry dock) in the area now occupied by the helicopter company, Tropicopter. This facility will have a gantry crane for hoisting capable of moving craft of up to 150 tonnes into and out of the water.
This varadero will also provide this service for fishing boats in the nearby fishing sector of the port – until now fishing boats have had to use the port of Caleta de Vélez (Málaga) or Adra (Almería) for hull inspections and repairs.
