The First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya, is not a happy bunny; somebody emptied a bottle of squeezy into the village’s new fountain.
Is nothing sacred, I hear you gasp!
Evidently not, but before plunging on into the heinous details of this foaming vandalism, I should point out that ‘squeezy’ is a Britishism meaning washing-up detergent. It’s one of those cases where a particular brand becomes a collective noun, like ‘to hoover’ when we mean, to use a vacuum cleaner, or a ‘Kleenex‘ when using a paper hanky or tissue, no matter what brand it is.
Anyway… back to the sabotaged fountain! This new fixture is the pride and joy of the village and sits on the roundabout where Avenida Prieto Moreno and the Paseo Andrés Segovia meet. In fact, this was the second time that somebody emptied a bottle of detergent into the fountain – just the day before, the fountain plumbing had to be flushed out after a squeezy attack.
This time however, the pump gave up the ghost so the Town Hall will have to fork out for another. However, they are determined to discover who the culprit was and have asked for all CCTV footage from nearby establishments.
Finally, here’s a bit of Spanish for you! This sort of thing is known as a gamberrada carried out by gamberros, which basically translates for ‘pranks’ carried out by ‘pranksters.’
