A mains failure in the Velilla/Taramay area of Almuñécar on Tuesday afternoon left the area with not a drop of water for several hours.

The water company, Aguas y Servicios managed to get the water back on at around midnight providing a temporary fix.

The Mayor, accompanied by several councillors, went to visit the affected area the next day, on Wednesday to ‘find out’ the extent of the problem and to see what the Mancomunidad could do to provide a solution after summer.

“The problem was an important one, given that it occurred near the main crossroad on the N-340 in Taramay, and a temporary fix was needed to get the mains water supply back on,” explained the Councillor of Public Works, Javier García.

He went on to say that a provisional pipeline of some 270m in length was installed, which will have to do until after the summer so that when more extensive work is carried out to solve the problem, it will affect fewer people.
