A woman in Zaragoza was arrested for selling a supposed cure for Covid-19 after one of her customers ended up in hospital after trying it.
The police searched the suspect’s home in Piedratajada , finding the ingredients for making her ‘dubious brew.’
The Guardia Civil received a call at 14.30h one day at the end of last month from the local medical centre informing them that the previous evening around 23.30h they had treated a 67-year-old woman suffering from a serious case of poisoning requiring her being taken to the general hospital in Zaragoza after drinking a concoction, .
The police began looking into it and turned up that the woman had taken a dose of the ‘medicine’ around 19.00h and then another after eating her evening meal. Her husband found her lying on the floor in an unresponsive state around 23.30h and immediately phoned the emergency services.
The ‘medicine’ that she had taken had been sold to her by a woman in Piedratajada as a cure for Covid-19 and ‘other ailments.’ She handed over 20 euros for a small bottle containing 250ml.
It didn’t take long to track down the 52-year-old suspect, who apparently gave treatment for osteopathy, massages and other services from her home. She was arrested around 18.15h that same day and charged with an offence against public heath resulting in injury.
The police searched her home and found numerous base ingredients for her concoction as well as 32,050 euros in cash, mostly in 50-euro notes. They also found other samples of the ‘medicine’ and have handed it over for a thorough analysis.
The police investigation continues to see if there are more victims and to establish the exact content of the brew.
