Actually, the title would be more accurate if it read, “Live-Long Lanjarón” because according to the World Health Organisation, the people who have the longest life expectancy in the world are natives of this town.
A film crew from TVE1, (Spanish state television) has been in Lanjarón, shooting an episode of Aquí la Tierra. They carried out interviews with some of the elderly inhabitants of this town, famous for its eponymous bottled water, and obtained footage of its most idyllic streets.
So, how did the town come by this recognition from the WHO? Lanjarón has a population of 3,600 inhabitants, 426 of whom are over 70 and 840 are over 65.
Editorial comment: If that is the case, one of the town’s main sources of income comes from old-age pensions…
