For a couple of weeks now the wearing of masks has been obligatory when out and about but many are asking how long for.
The Chairman for the Coordination Centre for Health Emergencies, Fernando Simón, announced that it has been foreseen that the wearing of masks in public will continue until it is known whether there will be new outbreaks in the autumn.
Doctor Simón made this announcement at one of his daily press calls when asked about details for the new Royal Decree that is being drawn up and should be ready for Tuesday. This Royal Decree will take over from the one that introduced the State of Alert which expires on the 21st of June.
“We shall see what the final version of the document is but I believe that this measure [obligatory use of masks] will remain in force,” he emphasised.
At present, masks are obligatory for everybody over six when in public, be it in open air spaces or any interior in public use, if it is not possible to maintain a safety distance of two metres.
People with respiratory problems which could be worsened by the use of a mask are exempt, as long as they carry official documents to attest to their condition.
