The Guardia Civil and fire personnel recovered the body of a 64-year-old woman from an irrigation channel – hers was the second body to be found there recently.
The woman, who lived in Cúllar Vega, had gone out to walk her dog near the Gorda de Ambroz irrigation channel during the morning of Friday the 29th of May. The daughter reported her missing when she failed to return home for lunch.
It was that same afternoon that the Guardia Civil, Policía Local and volunteers from the local Protección Civil set out in search of the victim. Around 15.30h a woman found the woman’s purse and informed the Guardia Civil.
The police then decided to shut off the water in the irrigation channel and then inspect the interior of the channel, which is covered over in parts. Finally at 16.30h the search party located the body and with help of the fire service managed to retrieve it from inside the water channel.
This is the second death in barely nine days of somebody falling into the irrigation channel and being swept away.
