If you’ve been down to fishing area of Motril Port you will have seen that roadworks are going on, but there’s lots more going on down there.
Basically, access to the fish warehouse is being improved, both through the port itself as well as its direct access. Then there are the new individual fishermens’ storage and workshops, which are going up closer to the fish-auction warehouse and dock than the original ones. The new ones are bigger and better designed. The old ones will be demolished thus giving the area a more modern air.
All this is being done with a million-euro budget, most of which has been provided by the Junta (80%), which in turn come from EU funding for the fishing sector.
The Port Authorities, together with the Fishermen’s Guild and the Shipowners Association are working on a project to reform the fish-auction warehouse itself, with a series of features orientated towards tourism
