Motril Town Hall has purchased a drone for the Policía Local so that they can control better the beaches during the Lock Down.
But they’re not alone in this idea because the Mayor of Torrenueva Costa, Plácido Lara, has a meeting coming up with a company that makes drones with the same idea in mind.
Salobreña,on the other hand, is not convinced that this is the best; i.e., most effective, option given how much they cost.
Readers might have heard that the Central Government published an update on the Lock Down measures concerning the minimum distance between beach brollies (parasols) which is to be four metres.
On this point, Motril has established that the maximum number of people that use the same beach umbrella is four, so if there are more people in a group, they will have to bring a different brolly and set up four metres away. This would seem illogical if it is dealing with a family who all live under the same roof. However, there is no other alternative to setting down rules like this because somebody is going to try and push it and ruin it for everybody.
Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, also announced the prohibition of chambaos on the beach as it would be too difficult for the police to control the number of people using one. A chambao in this case would be a carpa california or open-sided beach pavillion.
Some towns are thinking of dividing the beaches up. The BOE firmly says that Town Councils cannot use concrete stands – Salobreña was thinking along those lines for mounting cubicles so it will have to scrap that idea.
Motril intends to impose a 10-metre no-man’s land between the water and the first umbrella so that beach users have a wide space for walking along the beach without having to wind in and out of beach brollies and towels.
The Mayor of Motril also announced that it would be keeping the showers and toilets operative as the town has the capacity to maintain them desinfected. Almuñécar and Salobreña, on the other hand, will keep such facilities closed to the public, for the moment.
