A fire amongst wild sugarcane in the vega of Salobreña produced an impressive, towering column of dense smoke this afternoon, visible for kilometres around.
Its exact location was behind Playa de la Cagadilla between Río Guadalfeo and Hotel Robinson, covering a wide extension.
By 21.00h, although under control, it had died down into two separate fires. Fortunately, wind has been minimal so it has not made the fire service’s task any harder.
08.00h Update: during the rest of the evening the flames were more visible and it seemed that far from dying down, the flames grew, peaking between 22,000 and 23.00h. By midnight it had died down again so that this morning only a small amount of smoke could still be seen rising.
