The Nerja Caves are working towards a possible reopening on the 25th of May; i.e. Stage Two of the Lock Down easing, which is when museums etc, will reopen.
One of the acquisitions made by the foundation that runs the caves is an infra-red camera to check visitors’ temperatures.
As for how many people can go down into the caves, the limit has been set at 120 persons per hour, which is about a third of the normal number of visits. From the 22nd of June, the number permitted will be increase to 180.
Furthermore, visitors will be issued with surgical masks (whose use will be obligatory) as well as making available hand disinfectants.
Cave-complex manager, Chema Domínguez, explained that people will be allowed to enter individually, or in family units at intervals of ten minutes.
As for ticket prices, Sr. Domínguez assures that there will be “attractive packages,” given that tourism will be weaker meaning that they will depend more upon visitors from the province, and as measures are relaxed, from the rest of Spain. Visitors from abroad will be few and far between.
Visiting hours will be from 10.00h to 15.30h until the 23rd of June, when they will be increased to 10.00h to 18.30.h
