Motril Town Hall has come up with a clever way of helping eating establishments with their terrace-seating limitations – make them bigger!
Many bars and restaurants are asking themselves whether it is worth it or not to open up with the 30% limitation to seating space – for most it is simply not worth the expense.
However, the Town Hall is exploring the idea of increasing terrace, so that the 30% of the new area is equivalent to 60% (if it’s doubled) of the old eating capacity.
Don’t forget that bars and restaurants have already been pardoned the licence cost for the occupation of public space during 2020, so the increase in size (a temporary measure) won’t costs them at all.
Of course, the eating establishments that this measure will not help are the chiringuitos because it’s not the Town Halls competence, but rather the fearsome Costas Department!
The problem is that on the 11th they can use their terraces at 30% occupation capacity – absolutely ruinous with no inside seating permitted at all, because running costs are the same as normal almost. It won’t be until Stage Two that they are permitted to use inside seating (30%).
So, if you’re running a bar or restaurant in Motril and you are interested, contact the Town Hall from the 5th of May.
Today or tomorrow the Mayor will issue a municipal proclamation which will set out the instructions for this measure, explaining how to apply for this concession.
