A 24-year-old, German driver died yesterday afternoon in a road accident on the A-7  within the municipality of Nerja.

The emergency number received five calls in quick succession around 16.35h to say that there had been an accident, more specifically,  in the Maro area near kilometre point 299.

According to eyewitness reports, the BMW, travelling on the westbound lanes, had collided with the crash barrier and turned over and had begun to burn.

By the time the emergency services arrived, the paramedics could only confirm that the driver was already dead.
