Motril’s Fly-Dumping Campaign

MOT Recycling BinsMotril Town Hall has received over 200 ‘denuncias’ concerning illegal dumping and domestic rubbish being put out, outside collection times.

In fact, we’re talking about everthing from dumping old sofas and domestic rubbish put out after the cleaning crews have been round to putting up posters etc on lamposts and other surfaces.

These 200 denuncias were registered between July and September.

Domestic rubbish should be put out between 20.00h and 23.00h, after that you can be fined. As far as shops go, cardboard boxes etc should be put out for collection between 14.00 and 16.00h

The Town Hall has also been targeting local business that have put up publicity on lamposts and other public surfaces, as mentioned in a previous article. When we say businesses, we’re including people who put up pieces of paper with tear-off contact phone numbers for private tuition, etc.

However, you’re not fined straight away but advised that you will be if you do not remove them all within a reasonable elapse of time. To date, only one business has ignored the warnings so a fine is in the pipeline.

Back in July, the municipal Police launched a campaign to encourage locals to bring cases of dumping etc to their attention; i.e., get local residents involved with reporting dumping and other transgressions of that nature.

This has been a great success, so much so that 75% of those 200 denuncias were thanks to local residents reporting what they saw to the police.

You can make a denuncia by phoning 092 and your call will be treated totally anonymously; in other words, you won’t have to give your name.

So if you come across a van, for example, dumping old furniture or a lorry dumping building waste, make a note of the numberplate and phone in.
