Sewage Content Confirmed

SAL Stain is BackThe analysis results have come back from Seprona (Guardia Civil) concerning the reappearing stain off Salobreña: it contains sewage.

Seprona confirms that it definitely contains human waste but that the quantities are small. They are now opening an investigation into the origin of the sewage but admit that it won’t be easy to track the source down.

Despite the existence of sewage, the waters off Salobreña have not been declared, ‘not apt for bathing.’

In fact, the Health Board has just issued a report on the quality of the seawater along the Costa Tropical for the first fortnight of August, including Salobreña, and it states that the said water is apt for bathing. This view has been shared by the Salobreña Town Hall this summer, despite the reappearing stain.

The full Seprona report on the Salobreña stain has yet to be made public.

The main point of relief is that the summer peak period has passed and the tourist sector has not suffered.

Editorial comment: Although the percentage of sewage in the stain might be quite low, the stain itself when present is rather extensive. In that case, you don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out that the source must be a large one; i.e., we’re not talking about a house on the cliffs, for example, but somewhere with a much larger sewage output that is not going where it is suppose to.

The sewage slick was present in and around the waters of Torre Del Mar! Not pleasant. Several times children and adults left the water. This sewage contains ecoli, which contracted a couple of years ago.
