Thirteen children have been diagnosed with Hypertrichosis (the Werewolf Syndrome) after taking Omeprazol contaminated with Minoxidil.
Minoxidil is a medication used for the treatment Alopecia (hair loss).
It was on the 11th of July that the Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios ordered the withdrawal of several lots of Omeprazol distributed by Farma-Química Sur S. L., which is based in Málaga.
All told 21 different lots have been withdrawn from pharmacies, owing to this contamination.
The Agencia Española de Medicamentos explained that the Málaga-based pharmaceutical company has had its licence suspended since July to make, import or distribute prime active ingredients.
The AEMPS has issued a notice to parents whose children have Omeprazol to approach a chemist to see if the product they have belongs to one of the lots that has been withdrawn.
