The new Mayor of Motril has announced that she will be beefing up the municipal police, as well as building a new police station for them.

Mayor Luisa García said that the new police station will be situated near the Ronda del Mediodía in a completely new building that should start to go up before the year is out.

The police will also be getting new patrol cars and bikes, added the Councillor for Citizen Safety, María Ángeles Escámez.

All this, the new municipal administration hopes to achieve within the next four years; i.e., before the next municipal elections. However, the Mayor’s words on precisely how many more police officers there would be were ‘vague,’ limiting herself to saying that it would be a number sufficient to police a town of 60,000 inhabitants.
