Fish Farm not Abandoned

SAL Fish Pens July 2019 BIt seems as though the reporting in the regional press about the state of abandonment of the Salobreña fish farm has had an effect.

One of the boats belonging to Acuicultura Granada S.L was out by the pens during most of Wednesday working on repairing them and getting the last ‘crop’ of mussels in.

A statement from a company administrators explained, “The installations are far from being abandoned. We’re trying to reactivate the company,” adding, “during the week we will be out there [working on the pens] as we shall also be the rest of the months left [of the licence concession].”

He went on to say that, “during January, February and March this year we were handling produce and preparing part of the installations. The company is in a critical state but the business partners are behind getting the fish farm up and running again.”

As reported in our previous article on the subject, the company lost around 2-million euros owing to the damage caused to the pens during the gales last year, which ripped the nets apart, spilling out the mature lubinas and doradas.
