Burglar Caught in Castell

ALP Guardia Civil car GenericThe Guardia Civil in Castell de Ferro nabbed a burglar red-handed, attempting to gain access to the building where the Library and Post Office are.

The incident took place on the 17th when the 53-year-old man from Motril scaled a height of four metres to reach the second floor. Once there he smashed a window and then forced a locked door inside to gain further access to the building.

Once inside the Post Office, he forced a cash box and stole 32 euros – the damage he caused to the building was much more than the booty obtained, obviously.

It was thanks to a call from a neighbour that the Guardia Civil were able to move fast enough to catch him. In fact, the Guardia despatched four patrol cars: from Motril, Calahonda, Albuñol and Castell, itself.

They found him on the roof terrace but he momentarily gave them the slip by fleeing across the tiled roof of an adjoining building. They found him hiding, however, in a nearby abandoned house.
