Flat Fire Interrupts Procession

MOT Flat Fire Semana Santa 02Saturday afternoon in Motril last week was interrupted by fire-engine and police-car sirens owing to a flat fire in the centre of town.

This coincided, more or less, with one of the Easter processions, The Cristo Yacente y la Virgen de la Soledad (20.30h).

The fire was in a 2nd-floor flat on Rambla de Capuchinos and produced quite a lot of smoke, which drifted over onto Calle Carretas, where the procession was taking place.

The fire service and Policía Local soon arrived to deal with the fire; whilst the fire personnel tackled the fire, which had broken out in the kitchen, the municipal, police officers cordoned off the street to keep onlookers at bay.

The fire was promptly extinguished and the crowd soon got back to watching the procession instead.
