Yet again, Playa de Poniente in Motril has become a lagoon – whereas other towns have their beaches eroded, Motril’s simply disappear under water.
It’s not clear exactly what can be done about it because it is not a case of the beach being washed away, rather being washed over, so building a groyne is not going to help much, perhaps
The local opposition party, Ciudadanos, says that “there is an urgent necessity to make efficient and permanent defences to mitigate the sea action.” They recommend breakwaters to combat the climatic variations taking place.
Ciudadanos in Motril coincide with the PSOE in Almuñécar at pointing an accusative finger at the Central Government for neglecting and underfunding coastal defences, but with the difference that they consider that the socialist are just as much to blame as the conservatives, as they have both alternated in the seat of power as the nation’s government.
