Almuñécar Town Hall has started replacing the halogen bulbs in 170 streets lights for LED (Retrofit) ones, spread over 40 town-centre streets.
This is going to cost 38,819 euros plus IVA (21%), which is just under 47,000 euros.
The company charged with the task is Instalaciones Técnicas Contreras SL (ITECO) and it is hoped that it will be concluded before Semana Santa next month.
The advantage that this light system has is that the amount of light emitted can be varied, explained the municipal engineer, Juan José Fernández, so according to the use of the street and the time of evening/night, street illumination can be adjusted.
As for the squares, municipal employees have already replaced 14 Fernandino-style lampposts in the Town-Hall Square from 200 watts down to 70 watts each, which will cut down the electricity bill.
If you want to see what it is all going to look like, pop along to Calle Pintor Manuel Rivera, which runs down the side of the P4 high school, because the lighting was changed when the street was done up recently.
