MOT Velez Benaudalla A-44 JunctionA child not being properly secured in the back seat of a car ended in a chase with the driver and passengers being arrested for drug smuggling.

The incident took place on the A-44 within the municipality of Vélez-Benaudalla yesterday, when Guardia Civil policemen on traffic duty saw a car heading onto the Autovia from junction 181 with a child in the back without a child-safety seat.

The police officer indicated that the driver should pull over but instead the car sped off along the A-44, with the patrol car in pursuit.

It was during the chase that the officers saw the co-pilot jettisoning two packages, which later turned out to be 448 individual hashish doses with a total weight of 4.9kg.

The patrol car managed to bring the other car to a halt and arrested the three adult passengers; two men and one woman, all of Moroccan nationality.
