Have you wondered when they are going to use that mini bus station the other side of the main road in Salobreña? If you have, it is not surprising because it was finished two years ago but remains empty, unused and probably clinically depressed.
It has a ticket office, public toilets and platforms for boarding, but what it hasn’t had is a single bus stop there or any passengers through its doors.
So what’s the problem?
The problem is that getting there on foot is a bit of an Odyssey because the footpaths under the bridge are too narrow if you’re pulling a large case and there are no zebra crossings to negotiate a busy roundabout. So, the opening of the said bus-station is pending the redesign of the entrance to the town.
The project, which has a budget of 200,000 euros will coincide with other projects being carried out around town. The town is going to use 600,000 euros for the series of urban renovations, such as the tarmacking around the centre of town; some 20,000 sq/m of resurfacing.
The Mayor said that they would not wait until a bus company takes over the running of the ticket office, but will open the bus-station facilities to buses passing through.
Finally, a taxi-rank will also be set up next to the new facilities.
