Those Pesky Phone Calls

SPN Spam CallsDid you know that phone companies can’t spam you with unsolicited offers outside certain hours and not on any old day of the week, either?

Well, it’s true! Legally they can’t phone you between 21.00h and 09.00h and… they can’t phone you on weekends and bank holidays, etc.

The Guardia Civil have taken time off hanging people upside down and beating the soles of their feet (just joking!) to remind people of this on their Twitter account.

Yes, thanks to a modification to an existing consumer rights bill in 2014, if they do phone you one Sunday morning, they are breaking the law.

The more cynical amongst us will think, “Yeah, right, like that is going to stop them!” But, you see, they rely on your not being bothered to report them.

So, to prove them wrong what you have to do is to inform the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD) by visiting their webpage (www.aepd.es) where you will find an online form to down load and drop it in at the consumers’ rights office in your local Town Hall. They’ll probably tell you it has nothing to do with them and suggest that you post it to the AEPD in Madrid.

Now, if your next conscious thought upon reading the above is, “Yeah, so that they can make a paper airplane out of it when it arrives,” there is also another option, which is the Robinson List. Bear in mind, once you have registered with them, it takes about three months for the system to kick in.

Our advice? Be on the safe side and learn Outer-Mongolian for “I’m sorry, I don’t speak Spanish.”
