ALM Arte Sur EroticaThe Almuñécar Town Hall appears to be on a roll because after trashing Salobreña’s municipal market, it has now permitted the use of a sexist poster.

The Casa de la Cultura is running a private art exhibition that includes paintings sculptures and erotic poetry – fine, no problem but somebody decided to use a poster which looks like it has came out of a James Bond film from the 70s.

Now, IU, the left-wing opposition party couldn’t believe their luck (with the elections only a couple of months away) and has protested strongly about this ‘sexist blunder.’

Party leader, Fermín Tejero, considers that it was not necessary to use that particular image for this cultural activity, pointing out that the governing party “keeps using this kind of stereotype which does not help the fight again male chauvinism.

“Although the exhibition is a private event,” he considers,” the Department of Culture is sponsoring it and should have taken more care to avoid this sort of thing,” he said.

“It’s a waste of time passing motions in the Plenary Meetings in favour of gender equality if you’re going to promote the use of images that treat women like sexual objects,” he concluded.

Editorial comment: the theme of the art exhibition is erotica, so is the poster really so overboard? Without doubt, there will be exhibits within the showroom that could also be classed as sexist, so the question boils down to is this a case of the politically correct on steroids or paleo-mindset?
