An 86-year old woman with Alzheimer’s was found in bed at her flat with the body of her 57-year-old son decomposing in an armchair in the next room.
When they found Carmen she was severely dehydrated so she was rapidly taken to the nearest hospital. The man’s body was removed and is awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The incident took place on Calle Azorín, which is along the Camino de Ronda in the city of Granada. Neighbours in the same block of flats hadn’t seen the son, Francisco, in several days.
The elderly woman was being looked after by her son and a social worker who came around twice a week. When nobody opened the door to the social worker, she spoke with the next-door neighbours and they said that they hadn’t seen Paco since her last visit, so it was decided to inform the police, who called in the fire service to gain access to the flat.
The body of the man showed no signs of violence and by the state of the body he had been dead several days.
