COS Population FiguresThe population on the Costa Tropical is fluctuating, with some towns increasing in population whilst other decrease.

Almuñécar, for example, lost 758 inhabitants whereas Motril gained 172. Salobreña has maintained the same number of inhabitants, more or less –  there was a difference of just six inhabitants.

In some cases it is because of differences between the birth and death rates and in others because people simply had moved away or arrived to put down roots.

Otivar went down from 1,043 to 1,029 – don’t look at me; I’m still there. Los Guajares (which has three urban centres) also went down from 1,037 a 1,028.

So, who else increased their population figures? Albuñol increased from 6,998 to 7,128 and Gualchos-Castell de Ferro, rose from 5,051 to 5,210.

These figures were provided by the National Institute of Statistics and correspond to 2017.
