The new short-term immigrant holding centre (CATE) in Motril port will be comprised of modules, replacing the existing tent arrangement.
The Police Chief for Eastern Andalucía, Jesús Redondo, said that they are just waiting for signatures on the space concession within Motril Port; i.e. between the Ministry of the Interior and the Regional Port Authorities.
However, he did not mention when the new modular accommodation, which will have a capacity to house 200 people, would be ready, although the beginning of summer seems most likely.
The fact is that so far this year up to the end of November over 50,000 immigrants had arrived on our coasts. That 167% more that for whole of last year, indicating that Spain has become the main point of entry for refugees/immigrants entering Europe.
