Good Year for Hotels

Apparently this has not only been a good summer for the Costa Tropical but also one of the best as far as hotels go.

Between July and September hotels on our coast had 138,504 guests, which is the highest number since the Instituto Nacional de Estadística started collecting this data in 1999.

Nearly twenty years ago when they began recording hotel figures the figure stood at 55,837 (bare in mind there were few hotels).

However, if you compare summer 2018 with summer 2017 you will see that although there were more people, they had shorter stays.

The Chairperson for the Asociación de Hoteleros de la Costa, Jesús Megías, says that the proliferation of ‘illegal’ holiday rentals is reflected in this more visitors/shorter stays figure.

One thing that remains the same is that national tourism (Spanish tourists) is still king of the last two decades: of the 138,504 visitors, only 36,000 were foreign; the former prefer August and the latter prefer September.
