The thunderstorms that were marching around behind the coastal mountains not only covered the mountains in a layer of hailstones, but the lightning strikes also started small and easily tackled forest fires in Algarinejo, Diezma and Colomera.
Even as close to the coast as Otivar, villagers saw a short shower, accompanied by rumbling thunder, leaving behind that scent that only parched, mountain brush can produce after the first end-of-summer rains.
