A driver, who had been speeding the wrong way down an autovía before ploughing into a police roadblock last year, has had his court sentence overturned. The incident, as reported previously in the Gazette, occurred on the 7th of January on the A-92 within the municipality of Guadix.
Although the Senegalese driver had been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment and a fine of 1,050 euros, the appeals court decided that he was not responsible for his behavoir as he suffers from a “delusional mystic-paranoid syndrome.”
Consequently, the man has been freed and put under a supervised release and will be treated by the Servicio Andaluz de Salud.
As for the 11,500-damage that he caused to the police cars, he will still have to cough up – he might be crazy, but the insurance company isn’t.
