Ultra Violet Alert

Bad day in the city of Granada today if you’re fair-skinned and easily burned because there is a UV warning for the next few days there. Down on the coast it will be just as bad.

According to the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) Granada will be at Ultra-Violet Level 11, which is classified as ‘extreme.’

This Level 11 will last today and tomorrow but will drop to Level 10 on Thursday; Level 10 will last until the weekend.

The Province of Granada will have the highest UV alert in the whole of Spain, by the way, so if you’re thinking of sunbathing – don’t.

A UV Index reading of 11 or more means extreme risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Take all precautions because unprotected skin and eyes can burn in minutes.

Try to avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If outdoors, seek shade and wear sun protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-blocking sunglasses. Generously apply broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen every 2 hours, even on cloudy days, and after swimming or sweating. Bright surfaces, such as sand, water and snow, will increase UV exposure.
