ALM San Juan Clean Up 2018The Almuñécar beach-cleaning crews picked up between 80 and 90 tonnes of rubbish and litter after San Juan, whilst in Motril another 20 tonnes were collected.

Almuñécar Councillor, Luis Aragón, explained that the majority of the rubbish was collected up on Sunday, except in La Herradura and on Playa Velilla where the big clean up happened yesterday, Monday the 25th.

Where most rubbish was collected was on Playa Puerta del Mar, which was where most of the youngsters had set up their tents on Saturday night, explained Councillor Luis Aragón.

Meanwhile, over in Motril, Councillor Francisco Sánchez-Cantalejo, said that a score of workers and two rubbish-collection lorries had been employed for the task, as well as a front-loader for clearing up what was left of the bonfires.

Two separate teams worked on Playa del Cable and on Playa Granada, from the Vereda de los Pescadores up to the parking area on Playa de Poniente.

All told they cleared up 17 tonnes on Saturday and another three on Sunday.
