The Ciudadanos political party in Salobreña has expressed its concern over the deaths of several pets around town within a short space of time.
Consequently, they have requested that the governing party urgently investigates these occurrences, in order to adopt measures to prevent further cases.
According to the party’s local Spokesman, Plácido Leyva, they have been contacted by locals who suspect that the animals have died after consuming weedkiller: most local fruit farmers use it at this time of the year.
For this reason Sr. Leyva calls upon the Councillor for the Environment, Gabriel Alonso, to investigate the affair and find out if this is indeed the case.
He also says that they have been in contact with a local vet who has given the following advice: wash your pets paws when they come in off the street. This is because if they have been through vegetation that has been treated with weedkiller and then they lick their paws.
