A busy Easter on the Costa Tropical with two swimmers rescued in Almuñécar – busy because a surfer in Motril had to be rescued, too, on the same day!
The 112 emergency line received a call at 18.00h on Thursday to say that two swimmers were in difficulty and couldn’t get back to the beach owing to the surf and undertow.
It all started when a girl lost her shoe to the surf. Her 18-year-old boyfriend from Maracena went in to retrieve it. This was when he discovered that he couldn’t get back to the beach.
The girl, seeing him in difficulties, dived in to rescue him (or the shoe – just joking!) and soon found herself in the same predicament.
At this point beachgoers who had witnessed things develop decided to phone 112. Although all the services were alerted, those on the beach saw that they were taking too long so they decided to risk their own lives to reach them using the rocks.
