Around 20 chefs participated yesterday in the I Jornadas gastronómicas Emilio Cervilla in Salobreña’s Hotel Miba.
Organised by José de la Blanca and presented by the Mayor, this competition intends to convert the Costa Tropical into a gastronomic epicentre, as well as pay homage to Emilio Cervilla; chef and proprietor of Restaurante El Trasmallo, who died earlier in the month.
While the Mayor made the “gastronomic epicentre” aim, the organiser himself plays down its importance, explaining that its simply “cooking amongst friends.” Well the competing chefs are some of the best on the Costa Tropical and the provincial capital, as well as other parts of Spain.
Besides the wizards amongst the saucepans, the competition also has a top-notch sommelier, barman and a representative from the Academia Andaluza de Gastronomía y Turismo.
There were 40 lucky diners present, whose tastebuds were to benefit from the gastronomic delights coming out of the open-to-the-dining-room kitchen. Neither Hungry Dave Darby nor Mountain Man Martin Myall were amongst them. *Sob!*
Finally, the Mayor pointed out that this top-grub event is part of the Salobreña para comérsela (Salobreña’s good enough to eat) promotional programme.
