ALM Reina Sofia Storm Damage 02Saturday night was a stormy one along the Costa Tropical with the gale causing damage in La Herradura, Amuñécar, Salobreña and Motril.

Heavy rain and powerful waves wrought chaos on paseos and beaches, flooding coastal roads and throwing up stones onto beachfront roads.

However, the higher up, inland; the heavier the rain with 40L sq/m on the coast and 49L sq/m in Otivar. Further up it reached 90L sq/m and all in the space of ten hours.

We will deal with Almuñécar and La Herradura here and Salobreña and Motril in separate articles.

LHR Storm Damage 02The Paseo de Reina Sofía which links Almuñécar to Velilla took a beating with a section of the wall collapsed, just passed the groyne. From first light Sunday morning municipal workers and those from FCC & Urbaser were out clearing up the beach road.

In La Herradura, as with the previous gale, the beach road was strewn with stones thrown up by the waves, which all had to be removed in order to restore traffic.
