Belgian Killed in Road Accident

LHR Cerro Gordo Tunnel WestA man died in a car accident after his car left the road on the N-340, west of the Cerro Gordo turning and near the Cantarriján access.

The accident was reported at 21.30h Friday night by another driver. She phoned the Almuñécar Policía Local to say that she had seen a crashed car.

When the police arrived they found that the driver was dead, so they contacted the Guardia Civil (Tráfico). The Guardia Civil in turn called for the assistance of the Fire Service to free the body from the wreckage.

According to the press release, the victim was a 48-year-old Belgian man, resident in Vélez-Málaga.

The Guardia Civil could find no skid marks on the road which leads them to suspect the the driver had either fallen asleep or suffered a heart attack, causing the car to strike a sign post and then the embankment. But this will have to be confirmed by the autopsy.
