If you haven’t seen the film, The Darkest Hour, next week is your chance, in Almuñécar, where you can watch it in English.

You have to look very closely to see Gary Oldman under that elaborate ‘Churchill make up,’ but even more convincing than being the spitting image of Winnie, is that Oldman carries off the body language and postures to a T.

As for Ronald Pickup, who plays Neville Chamberlain, he appears to be an exact clone of the man. Kristin Scott Thomas carries off Winston’s wife admirably, too.

Even if you think you are pretty genned up on the history of Britain in 1940, like me you’ll be surprised by the facts that you didn’t know. The fact is, everything hung on his shoulders whilst those about him, in that very darkest moment, doubted, derided and drove him almost to the point of surrendering the islands to Hitler.

You simply cannot miss this film on Tuesday the 30th at 1800h in the Casa de la Cultura, Almuñécar.
