There is work going on along the N-340 where it passes through the municipality of Almuñécar. At present, it is near the Salobreña end of the municipality.

The work basically consists of improving the roadside drainage by laying a bed of concrete for the water to run along.

Work was recently completed near Los Pinos; i.e., between the P-4 junction and Barrio San Juan in Taramay. The activity has now moved to between Barranco de Enmedio and la Urbanización Alfamar.

This work means that in some places traffic is alternating along a single lane for both directions, controlled by either a worker with a sign and walkie-talkie or by roadwork traffic lights.

Another part of these improvements was work that was carried out inside the Cerro Gordo tunnel; it was repainted to give better visibility for pedestrians (lunatic tunnel walkers) and cyclists.

In the meantime, the road connecting the La Herradura N-340 roundabout to the autovia remains unlit, including the roundabout itself.
