Spain’s naval pride and joy, the Juan Carlos I Aircraft Carrier, will pay a visit to Motril Port in May, announced the Mayor of Motril.
OK, so it’s not exactly the USS Nimitz, but it is an aircraft carrier, so it will certainly draw the crowds when May comes around.
Well, when we say an aircraft carrier, it is, in fact, a multi-purpose amphibious assault ship (displacement 26,000 tonnes) that carries out the role of an aircraft carrier, thanks to its ski jump for STOVL operations.
The flight deck has eight landing spots for Harrier, F-35 Lightning II or medium-sized helicopters, as well as four spots for heavy helicopters of the CH-47 Chinook or V-22 Osprey kind.
